Bright red, round heads that are well wrapped with numerous leaves. Ribs are white and crisp, making a tasty addition to a mixed salad.
WHEN TO SOW - April to August
WHERE TO SOW - Outdoors: sow thinly where they are to crop, 1.5cm (½") deep, directly into finely-prepared soil, in rows spaced 30cm (12in) apart. Can also be sown underglass early in the year or in autumn into modules filled with seed sowing compost and transplanted out , filling vacant spaces on the plot.
WHAT TO DO NEXT - Thin out direct sown seedlings to 25-30cm (10-12in) apart between the plants. Keep well watered in dry spells. Transplant modules to the same spacings as above.
HARVEST - June to October
HANDY TIP - Modules can be transplanted in the autumn under cloches or polytunnels to extend the cropping season.
