The Go Grow Plant Health Guide: Diagnosing & Fixing Common Growing Problems

Every grower — from first-time gardeners to seasoned horticulturalists — encounters plant health problems. The difference between a struggling crop and a thriving one often comes down to how quickly you can identify what's wrong and take the right action.

At Go Grow, we've helped thousands of growers diagnose and fix plant problems. This guide covers the three most common issues we see: nutrient deficiencies causing yellowing leaves, powdery mildew and fungal problems, and pest infestations. Each section links to a dedicated in-depth guide where you'll find everything you need to treat and prevent the problem.

Why Are My Plant Leaves Yellowing?

Yellowing leaves are one of the most common — and most misdiagnosed — plant health problems. The cause could be a nitrogen deficiency, magnesium lockout, overwatering, or a pH imbalance preventing your plant from absorbing the nutrients already in the soil.

Tomatoes are particularly prone to yellowing, especially as they mature and begin fruiting. Identifying which leaves are yellowing and how they're yellowing is the key to diagnosing the root cause correctly.

White Marks on Leaves: Is It Powdery Mildew?

If you've noticed white, dusty or powdery patches on your plant leaves, you're almost certainly dealing with powdery mildew — a fungal disease that thrives in warm, humid conditions with poor airflow. Left untreated, it spreads rapidly and weakens plants significantly.

The good news: it's treatable, and with the right environmental controls, entirely preventable.

Common Garden Pests: Identification & Control

Aphids, spider mites, whitefly, and fungus gnats are the most frequent pest problems we hear about from our customers. Each pest causes different damage and requires a different approach — misidentifying the pest is one of the most common reasons treatments fail.

This guide covers how to spot each pest early, what damage to look for, and the most effective organic and chemical treatment options.
